In the J10 body, the part we need is located near the accelerator pedal. To perform this task correctly, it's necessary to remove the pedals that obstruct access to the filter housing, as well as the flap actuator. It sounds scarier than it actually is. Most mechanics and owners performing this task themselves ignore this step. However, it's better not to skip it. Otherwise, when installing the new filter, you'll have to deform it, which will lead to the formation of lumps and reduced efficiency.
First, remove the plastic cover on the right side. To do this, pry it from the bottom center and slide it to the right. If possible, we recommend covering the floor and the driver's seat with plastic or rags.
Now you need to remove the heater flap actuator. Start the car and set the climate control to minimum. Thanks to this simple method, you won't have to frantically remember the initial position of the flap when returning it. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the pair of bolts holding the actuator.
Now it's much easier to reach the housing cover. Open it by prying the bottom edge with a screwdriver, and carefully remove the old filter. Then, using a 13mm socket, remove the nut at the top. Next, use a 10mm wrench to remove several bolts holding the brake stop. Remove the entire pedal assembly.
Now nothing prevents you from installing the new filter. Turn it so that the arrow drawn on the housing points downwards, and slightly bending it at the edges, push the filter in. Once in place, the pleated filter will definitely straighten out. All you have left to do is reassemble everything.
How to change the filter on Nissan Qashqai J11
Owners of the new model are luckier. To perform this task, you won't even need to remove the glove compartment. In the second generation Nissan Qashqai, the filter element is hidden on the passenger side.
1. Make room for yourself by sliding the seat all the way back. On the left side under the glove compartment, feel for the latch holding the plastic cover. Press it and remove the cover.
2. Now, using a Torx T30, unscrew the screw on the filter cover.
3. After removing the cover, carefully remove the old filter. Install the new element in the same way as described above.
As you can see, replacing the cabin air filter on a Nissan Qashqai by yourself doesn't present any particular difficulties if you follow the instructions. The only thing that might let you down is the quality of the materials and parts used. Therefore, you should purchase original products for your car.
