Nissan Maxima QX 8th gen - A36

Segment

In markets such as the US, it belongs to the "E" segment, that is, the large sedan segment. Although nearly identical in size to the Altima, the Maxima is slightly larger.

Of course, both are built on the "D" platform they share with the Nissan Pathfinder, Murano, Infiniti QX50, QX60 and others, but the Maxima represents more luxury, power, presence and, in a sense, exclusivity.

Design

The Maxima stands out for its attractive, avant-garde and unconventional design, from the huge V-shaped grille to the skulls running through the waist and its cut-out

height of the “C” pillar; its most characteristic detail.

It's a cousin in size and segment to the Infiniti Q50, but only in some respects as its luxury sibling is rear-wheel drive and that's just one of its differences.

Mechanics

Mechanically, the Maxima is much more conservative than its shape suggests, as its transverse engine architecture, front-wheel drive and CVT Transaxle won't raise anyone's blood pressure.

The most notable thing about the box is that, unlike other models in the group that have it, the Maxima has a shorter and more direct gear ratio, which results in a stronger and stronger response when you press the gas pedal; It's good there.

Also helping is the engine, which, in contrast to the recent trend towards tiny supercharged displacements, retains the experienced and multi-award-winning 3.5-litre V6 engine (VQ35DE), which boasts some important changes such as reduced friction thanks to new coatings, as well as the inclusion of a variable valve opening system.

The result is 300 hp, which is more than enough to move it around easily. This is not a sports car, as the brand claims in its advertising, although it is capable of rolling fast if we want it to. Its best environment is not on a twisty road, because the slow cornering sections reveal somewhat slow steering with somewhat artificial feedback, a nervous rear end and a suspension that doesn't seem so soft at first; He's good at it, but his thing is the highway.
