Mazda CX-9 TB (2006–2015): Common Problems and Malfunctions

  • 1. Engine (MZI 3.7 V6)

🔹 Increased oil consumption

Cause: worn piston rings, clogged ventilation valve.

Solution: check oil level, clean crankcase ventilation system.

🔹 Coolant leaks

Problem: water pump leak.

Symptoms: overheating, low antifreeze level.

Solution: replace pump every 80-100 thousand km.

🔹 Throttle contamination

Symptoms: floating speed, poor response to gas.

Solution: clean throttle every 40-50 thousand km.

🔹 Catalytic converter overheating

Symptoms: loss of power, error P0420.

Solution: replace catalytic converter or install flame arrester.

  • 2. Transmission (6-speed automatic transmission Aisin TF-81SC)

🔹 Automatic transmission overheating

Cause: weak heat exchanger.

Solution: install an additional cooling radiator.

🔹 Shocks when shifting gears

Cause: solenoids are worn out, old oil.

Solution: change the oil every 50-60 thousand km, diagnose the solenoids.

  • 3. Suspension and steering

🔹 Rapid wear of the stabilizer bushings

Symptoms: knocking when driving over uneven surfaces.

Solution: replace the bushings every 40-50 thousand km.

🔹 Steering rack problems

Symptoms: knocking, power steering fluid leak.

Solution: replace the seals or the entire rack.

  • 4. Electrics

🔹 ABS unit failure

Symptoms: ABS error light, unstable system operation.

Solution: replace or repair the unit.

🔹 Ignition problems

Symptoms: engine misfires, cylinder errors.

Cause: ignition coil failure.

Solution: replace coils and spark plugs every 60–80 thousand km.
