HR12DE — 1.2-liter petrol engine (3-cylinder):
Problems:
Increased oil consumption: In some cases, owners have reported increased oil consumption, which requires regular oil level monitoring and topping up.
Noisiness: This engine can be quite noisy, especially when cold starting, due to the design features of the three-cylinder engine.
Rough idle: Sometimes there are problems with smooth idle operation, which is due to the design features of the three-cylinder engine.
HR15DE - 1.5 litre petrol engine (4 cylinder):
Problems:
Ignition coil problems: Ignition coil problems may occur, causing misfires and rough running.
Throttle valve: The throttle valve may become dirty, causing rough idling and loss of power.
HR15DE (1.5 liters):
Why it’s reliable: This engine is considered one of the most reliable in the Micra K13 lineup due to its proven design and relatively easy maintenance. It has no serious design flaws and also runs smoother than three-cylinder versions. With timely maintenance (oil changes, spark plugs, etc.), this engine can serve for a long time without serious problems.
HR12DE (1.2 liters):
Why it’s reliable: Despite some peculiarities associated with the three-cylinder design, the HR12DE can also be quite reliable if properly looked after. This engine is economical and suitable for urban use, although its noise and vibrations may require getting used to.
What to look for:
Regular maintenance: Regardless of engine type, regular maintenance and use of quality oil and fuel will significantly extend the life of the engine.
Check the history: When buying a used car, it is important to check the engine service history, including consumables and repairs.
Listening at idle: Pay attention to the engine's idle, especially for vibrations or instability, which may indicate problems with the ignition system or throttle valve.
