Step-by-step instructions for replacing the Thermostat on a ZD30 engine. Cars:
Nissan Caravan, Patrol, Pathfinder, Terrano, Elgrand.
Unlike normal engines, where replacing the thermostat takes 10-15 minutes, on the ZD30 this process is a big problem, so we need to talk about it in more detail.
Nissan 21200-2W20A - original thermostat 82C (O-ring included)
Motorad 28177K - thermostat at 77C
Gates TH31276G1 - 76C thermostat (O-ring not included)
TAMA WV56MC765 - thermostat at 76.5C
Nissan 21200-57J10 - thermostat at 76.5C (O-ring included)
21236-AA010 - not the original O-ring for the thermostat (additional sealant may be required)
Drain the antifreeze.
Disconnect both batteries and remove the left one.
Remove the fan casing (diffuser), impeller and take off the belt.
Remove the air duct assembly from the turbine to the air filter:
It is advisable to disassemble the inlet pipeline and wash it
We close the turbine inlet pipe with a bag or rag so that nothing gets into it. Cover the top of the air filter with a bag.
Remove the generator.
Unscrew the bolt from below
For convenience, unscrew the harness holder bracket and take the generator forward, holding it by the pulley with one hand and holding it from behind with the other.
Disconnect the lower rubber radiator hose from the aluminum thermostat hose. There is no need to disconnect the hose from the radiator.
Unscrew a couple of bolts number 12 securing the thermostat pipe at the front.
We unscrew the vacuum tube mounting bracket and move it a little to gain access to the third bolt.
We unscrew the third bolt 12 securing the thermostat pipe.
Disconnect the thermostat pipe and pull it out. We remove the thermostat from the engine.
A thermostat removed from a cold engine with the valve fully open is faulty and must be replaced. Make sure that when cold, the thermostat valve is closed and pressed securely by the spring.
