Problems and Weaknesses of Nissan NV200 (M20)

1. Transmission

  • Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) Issues: Some NV200 owners have reported issues with the continuously variable transmission, such as jerky shifts, noise, or vibrations. These issues may be caused by overheating of the transmission or worn components.
  • Delays in Shifting: In some cases, drivers have reported delays in shifting gears, which may be due to faulty solenoids or software.

2. Engine Issues

  • Engine Overheating: The NV200 may have issues with the cooling system, causing the engine to overheat. This can be caused by a faulty thermostat, coolant leaks, or a clogged radiator.
  • Timing Chain Issues: In some cases, owners have reported the timing chain stretching, which can cause engine misfires and serious damage if not addressed promptly.

3. Suspension

  • Worn shock absorbers and springs: Due to regular use and frequent loads, shock absorbers and suspension springs can wear out quickly, which leads to poor handling and comfort.
  • Suspension noise: Some owners complain of noise and knocking in the front and rear suspension, especially when driving on uneven roads. This may be due to worn bushings or support bearings.

4. Electrical

  • Charging system problems: The alternator may be faulty, which leads to a weak battery charge and problems starting the car.
  • Wiring faults: In some cases, wiring problems such as breaks or short circuits occur, especially in damp conditions or after accidents.

5. Corrosion

  • Rust on the body: In some regions with high salt content on the roads (in winter), the NV200 is susceptible to corrosion, especially on the lower part of the doors, sills and wheel arches.
  • Exhaust System Corrosion: The exhaust system, including the muffler and pipes, can also corrode, which reduces its service life.

6. Air Conditioning

  • Weak Air Conditioning: In some cases, the air conditioning system may not work efficiently, resulting in insufficient cooling of the cabin. This may be due to a freon leak or a compressor malfunction.

7. Braking System Problems

  • Worn Brake Pads and Discs: Due to frequent use on city routes, the brake pads and discs can wear out quickly, requiring regular replacement.
  • ABS Problems: In some cases, the ABS system may not work properly, which manifests itself in the form of warning lights on the dashboard or reduced braking efficiency.

8. Interior and Trim

  • Worn Seats and Upholstery: The interior trim and seats can wear out quickly, especially with heavy commercial use.
  • Door Lock Problems: There may be problems with the door locks, including jamming or complete failure of the central locking.

9. Exhaust System Problems

  • Noises and Vibrations: Some owners report noises and vibrations coming from the exhaust system, which may be due to worn mounts or leaks.

10. Software and Electronics

  • System Errors: Sometimes software glitches can occur, causing sensors, the navigation system, or other electronic components to not work properly.
