Nissan Teana J31 2003-2008 Main Problems

1. CVT Problems

Overheating: The CVT is prone to overheating, especially under heavy use. This can result in poor shifting and even transmission failure. It is important to monitor the transmission fluid level, condition, and change intervals.

Belt and Pulley Wear: Over time, the belt and pulleys inside the CVT can wear out, causing slippage, jerking, and loss of power.

2. Engine

Increased Oil Consumption (VQ Series): Increased oil consumption is common on VQ23DE and VQ35DE engines. This can be caused by worn valve stem seals or piston rings.

Sensor Problems: The crankshaft and camshaft position sensors can fail, causing difficulty starting the engine and unstable idling.

Hydraulic compensators: In VQ series engines, wear of hydraulic compensators is possible, which leads to a characteristic knocking sound when starting the engine, especially when cold.

3. Suspension

Wear of silent blocks and ball joints: The Teana J31 suspension is relatively soft, which ensures a comfortable ride, but at the same time, suspension elements such as silent blocks and ball joints can wear out quickly, especially when used on bad roads. This manifests itself in the form of knocking and deterioration in controllability.

Stabilizer struts: They wear out quickly, which leads to knocking when driving over uneven surfaces.

4. Electronics

Climate control unit: Sometimes problems arise with the climate control unit, such as incorrect operation of the air conditioner or heater.

Electric window lifters: The window lift mechanisms are subject to wear, which causes difficulties with lowering and raising the windows.

Lighting Problems: Over time, the contacts in the light control units and headlight bulbs can oxidize, which leads to interruptions in the operation of the lighting equipment.

5. Body Corrosion

Rust: Despite good anti-corrosion treatment, body parts such as wheel arches, sills and doors can begin to rust, especially in harsh climates or with poor maintenance.

6. Cooling System

Radiator: Plastic radiator components are prone to cracks and coolant leaks. This can lead to engine overheating.

Thermostat: Sometimes there are problems with the thermostat, which causes unstable operation of the cooling system and engine overheating.

7. Braking System

Wear of Brake Discs and Pads: Brake discs and pads tend to wear quickly, especially with aggressive driving. This can lead to deterioration in braking efficiency and the appearance of vibrations.
